My First Holiday Season with Phoenix

The winter holidays are truly the most wonderful time of the year. They are filled with excitement, spending time with family and friends, and most importantly, a time to share love, compassion, and kindness. This past December, was my very first holiday season with Phoenix and I experienced, first-hand the kindness and generosity of our community coming together to make the holidays a little bit brighter for our youth and their families.

Celebrating our Earliest Guardians

It was a special and moving moment when we unveiled our new Guardian Wall during the Phoenix Holiday Open house and hung the first two plaques for long-time supporters Canadian Progress Club Halifax Cornwallis & St. Paul’s Homes.

These two groups embody community. Without them Phoenix would not exist as we do today!

Step by Step, we Create our Journey

The Phoenix Holiday Luncheon is a way to celebrate the joy and hope of the season with friends, family, colleagues and clients.

30 Years and Counting

1987 was the year when Aretha Franklin was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Rick Hansen completed his Man in Motion world tour, the ‘loonie’ was minted and an agreement was reached on NAFTA. It was also the year that five community-minded Haligonians and St. Paul’s Home decided to trust the magic of new beginnings. Thinking back to this decision 30 years ago is both humbling and motivating.

RBC and Rae Make 150 Count!

RBC believes strongly in the importance of investing in young Canadians and vibrant communities. This summer they launched the #Make150Count campaign - a unique, feel-good initiative to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary. RBC gave $150 to thousands of youth across the country with no strings attached and encouraged them to do something great with it. Rae, a Phoenix youth, was among those selected.

Turning Tools to a Brighter Future: A Single Mom’s Journey to Auto Mechanics

When Brittany was 17 years old she had high hopes for the future. She had graduated high school, was out on her own, and looking for a good job. But with no real training or work experience, that good job was hard to find.

At one point, she found herself out of work, out of food, and living with eight other people to make ends meet. Someone even stole her shoes.

Scotiabank Champions for Change Scores Again for Youth!

For the past four years, Phoenix has entertained hockey fans at Scotiabank Champions for Change. Held in July, it is an event jam-packed with fun filled activities for guests of all ages, fantastic collector memorabilia, and inspiring stories from some of Nova Scotia’s greatest hockey heroes.
